Vaani Kapoor started the new year how most actors would want to—by beginning a new film. The actor has been roped in as the leading lady of Raid 2, director Raj Kumar Gupta’s sequel to his crime film, Raid (2018). What makes it an important project for Kapoor is that it marks her first collaboration with Ajay Devgn, who is reprising his role of Indian Revenue Service officer Amay Patnaik. “Actors have a bucket list of people they want to creatively collaborate with. I have always been a big fan of Ajay Devgn’s work. He is a sheer force of nature on camera, and there are too many of his films that I love. So, it is an honour to share the screen with Ajay sir,” she says.

The film, which went on floors on January 6 in Mumbai, will also be shot in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Ravi Teja, who will headline the Telugu adaptation of Raid, gave the mahurat clap. While the 2018 original was based on an ’80s income-tax raid, it is not yet known whether the sequel too borrows inspiration from a real-life case. Kapoor views the film as an opportunity to learn from her seasoned co-star. “Working with him and observing him on the sets will help better my craft. Raid is one of the most engrossing and relevant films, and Ajay sir was swashbuckling in it,” she exclaims. The actor also has Sarvagunn Sampanna and her maiden web series, Mandala Murders, in the pipeline.
