Sharman Joshi's father, thespian Arvind Joshi passes away

Gujarati theatre actor, writer, producer and director Arvind Joshi passed away on January 29, 2021. He was the father of actor Sharman Joshi and Mansi Joshi Roy.

Gujarati thespian Arvind Joshi is no more. He breathed his last on January 29 morning. Arvind Joshi, is the father of Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi and Television actress Mansi Joshi Roy. Actor Paresh Rawal shared the news on Twitter, mourning the loss of Joshi. 


Joshi's sister-in-law and veteran actor Sarita Joshi told PTI that Joshi died at around 3.30 am on Friday at the Nanavati Hospital (Mumbai). "He was suffering from neurological issues and had chest infection. He was there at the hospital for more than a week in the ICU," a source from the hospital told PTI.


Tweeted Rawal, "Irreparable loss to Indian theatre; with grief, we say goodbye to the noted actor Shri Arvind Joshi. A stalwart, a versatile actor, an accomplished thespian, are the words that come to mind when I think of his performances. My condolences to @TheShermanJoshi & family.AUM SHANTI [sic]"


Director Anil Sharma too offered condolences on Twitter:

Screenwriter Mayur Puri tweeted, "Oh! A sad sad day indeed. What a legend #ArvindJoshi was! One of the first people in Mumbai to help/ encourage me as a writer. I'm heartbroken. Deepest condolences, @TheSharmanJoshi. So sorry for your loss! #TheatreLegendArvindJoshi" Arvind Joshi is survived by his wife and two children Sharman and Mansi. While Mansi is married to actor Rohit Roy, Sharma is married to veteran actor Prem Chopra's daughter Prerna. Veteran actress Sarita Joshi is Arvind Joshi's sister-in-law. He was the uncle of actress Ketki Dave and Purbi Joshi.

Arvind Joshi was known more for his work on the Gujarati stage and also films. He has also acted in Hindi films such as Sholay (1975) and Ittefaq (1969), and Apmaan Ki Aag (1990).
