Mrunal Thakur: I am turning to Tabu for inspiration

Tabu played the role of a cop in Drishyam and Mrunal Thakur

After a couple of acts as the protagonist’s love interest behind her, Mrunal Thakur is set to play a cop in the Hindi remake of the Tamil film, Thadam.

To play the part in the Aditya Roy Kapur-starrer, Thakur didn’t have to look too far for inspiration. “I loved the way Tabu performed in Drishyam. The first thing that came to my mind was how  fierce and feisty the character in the uniform was. Her character is the one I inspire to be like. Donning a uniform comes with a responsibility. I can’t wait to [take it up,]” says the actor.

Magizh Thirumeni’s 2019 original movie is inspired by true events, and follows the murder of a young man. It featured Arun Vijay in a double role, alongside Tanya Hope, Smruthi Venkat and Vidya Pradeep. Vardhan Ketkar takes charge as director for this version.

While prep work for the film is expected to commence this month, Thakur will not be seen pulling off action sequences. “To play this character, I need to focus on the performance. I need to nab the body language.”

Surely, understanding the psyche of the character couldn’t have been a mean feat for the actor, who hails from a family of police officials. “Apart from my father, everyone in the family was an ACP or DC. I grew up with my uncles, so it is nice to [showcase their lifestyle].”

While she has watched the original, she finds promise in Ketkar’s fresh vision. “This is also Vardhan’s first film, so I am excited to begin this project. And as far as working with Aditya is concerned, we met only briefly, but I am looking forward to collaborating with him.”
