Birthdays are about new beginnings. As she turns a year wiser today, Bhumi Pednekar, who kicked off social media initiative Climate Warrior in 2019, is ready for the next chapter in her efforts towards environmental conservation. The actor is now launching The Bhumi Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that will aim at empowering climate conservationists to reduce the impact of pollution and carbon footprint in our country.

Pednekar can’t think of a better way to mark her birthday than to lay the foundation of her passion project. She says, “Change can happen when we start taking accountability for our actions. I want to do right by my planet and try to leave a better one for the future generations. I resolve to do so through The Bhumi Foundation, which will be launched in the next few months. I’d be humbled if it plays a prominent role in saving the environment by empowering those who have dedicated their lives to protect the planet.”
Over the past many years, the actor has been invested in the cause of nature conservation. She views the organisation, which will be based out of Mumbai, as a means to bring like-minded environmentalists together and raise awareness about the subject. It’s her way of doing something for her namesake. “My name literally means Earth. Going forward, a portion of my earnings from my films, brand endorsements and any other revenue stream will go towards the foundation so that it can be used to aid the environment. As a climate warrior, I want to do everything in my capacity to ignite conversations and create change to build a sustainable environment.”
