Set in Delhi amid the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Jogi sees Diljit Dosanjh’s titular character attempting to flee the capital and take his family to Punjab. Amyra Dastur plays his love interest Kammo in director Ali Abbas Zafar’s venture. For the actor, her character’s fearlessness was a big draw. Dastur says, “Kammo is so bindaas in such a hard world. I related to her more than any other character I’ve played.”

In telling the story of three friends, the Netflix film studies the violence against the Sikh community in the wake of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination. Asked if the film is her attempt to steer towards hard-hitting roles, the actor says, “I’m not here to play the pretty girl on screen. My films won’t depict me as a wallflower. I’m here to [evoke] your emotions through my performance, whether it’s a 100-minute role or a minute-long.” In the grim movie, Dastur says Dosanjh’s warm personality brought the much-needed cheer. “He has the best sense of humour and is a gem of a person.”
