Akshay open to going nude on screen; says an actor’s top priority should be to serve the story

Strip for the script

Akshay Oberoi

Where does an artiste draw the line? While the answer may differ for each actor, to Akshay Oberoi, art comes before the artiste. He believes his first service is to the script. Guided by this principle, the actor says he is open to going nude for a role if it is integral to the story. “As an actor, my foremost priority is to serve the narrative and bring authenticity to my characters. Whether it means being typecast or taking on unconventional roles, I am willing to make bold choices. If going nude is necessary for a character and it adds authenticity to the portrayal, then I am open to exploring that aspect of my craft,” he shares. In the past, some Bollywood actors—from John Abraham in New York (2009) to Rajkummar Rao in Shahid (2013)—have shot crucial scenes in the buff.

Oberoi has had two releases this year so far in Fighter and the second season of The Broken News. Happy with the way 2024 is shaping up, he is now looking forward to Illegal 3 and Varchasva, among other projects. He says, “I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way. I want to continue pushing myself and exploring the depths of storytelling.”
