Raftaar: I am not qualified to judge people's singing

Rapper Raftaar says he does not feel qualified enough to judge a singing reality show but he is comfortable in the role of a mentor as he has plenty of experience to share. The 29-year-old star, whose real name is Dilin Nair, will be seen as a gang leader in the current season of hit reality show "Roadies".

The rapper joined the MTV show because he was keen to do an adventure show. "I came to 'Roadies' this year and got to know that we have to live in tents. I got to know that we also have to live in extreme conditions. So by next year I think all the gang leaders will be fighting with each other and there will be ten of them. "I chose the show because I wanted to be a part of that action. I am too young to pass comments on others while sitting on a judge seat," Raftaar told PTI.

The actor said people will witness a different side to him on the show. "I have been a mentor earlier. I have tutored kids on music and dance, and in my friend circle people heed my advice so somewhere I feel that I will be a good mentor." Asked whether he would participate in a singing show, Raftaar said he does not feel "proficient" enough to judge people's musical talents.

"I am 29 and for me to sit in a place and say to a person that you are unworthy, I don't have that proficiency. So I am not qualified for a singing show. I can do it because I have good listening experience. There are many good singers but not everyone is able to go further because of his singing technicalities. It is the tone that matters.

"The public is able to tell the difference between the singers because of their tones. So I don't feel qualified enough to say to a person that you are not a good singer. But I can tell somebody that he can work because he is a good singer. Also it is about respect. I am 29 and if I am telling someone that you are not a good singer, then it feels weird," Raftaar said.
