Designer Anavila Misra's linen saris have been creating ripples across the fashion industry with several stylistas relying on Misra's soft drapes for Indian-chic appearances.

The designer has now created a special collection for fashion store Bungalow 8, inspired by architectural motifs of Mumbai.

With a colour palette comprising different shades of blue and a few whites, the line is dominated by intricate geometric patterns seen on tiles in heritage structures in the city. And contrasting these are bold stripes that represent the linear buildings that dot Mumbai's present skyline.

“Recently, Bungalow 8 shifted to a new location — from Colaba to Wankhede Stadium. We have been associated with them in the past, and this travel of their location led us to the architectural pieces in the locality forming an inspiration. The block linear lines are a symbol of the modern cityscape and stand as contrast to the ornate symmetry of the old structural motifs.

So you will see tile patterns that I noticed in old houses, the art galleries of Mumbai, and there is this jali pattern too, which I saw at Saifee Hospital. The stripes are inspired by the city's skyrises that you can see from Marine Drive,” explains the designer.

As for the soft yet powerful colour scheme, Misra tells us, "It is a strong collection, and making it colourful would take away the focus from it. Plus it's a summer collection and we are going into monsoon, so the collection is entirely linen."

At: Bungalow 8, Wankhede Stadium, North Stand, E & F Block, D Road, Churchgate.
