In a career spanning over seven decades, eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani has helmed some of the most cardinal criminal cases of the country, his choice of clientele often subjecting him to public criticism and questioning. However, the lawyer, who has been accused of defending a motley group of murderers, crooks and underworld figures, has batted accusations with grace. Now, his lifestory will be adapted for the big screen. Shashant Shah of 'Dasvidaniya' (2008) and 'Sumit Sambhal Lega' (television series) fame will helm the untitled biopic.

Says Shah, “Our industry has the tendency to over-dramatise a biopic, but this one won’t be all sugar-coated. While Mr Jethmalani has made very few errors in judgment, this film will highlight that [the cracks in his character] as well.”
The 93-year-old, who has been at the forefront of the battle against corruption from the word go, tells hitlist, “My life is an open book and [the team] will have the right to tap upon any aspect that they wish to [for the film]. I am still determined to continue my fight to bring back black money stashed in various foreign banks. [I hope the film highlights] my fight against corruption, for which I have staked everything.”

Writer Suhaas Shetty, who promises to bring the issue to attention, says, “He has been a crusader against corruption since the ’60s with an inspiring story to share. The film will give voice to reasons behind his selection of controversial cases, showcase his career-defining moments and explore the man behind the myth.”

On-screen versions of Jethmalani have been seen in No One Killed Jessica (2011), and more recently, in the Akshay Kumar-starrer, Rustom.
