From his National Award-winning performance in Shahid (2013) to his election commissioner turn in Newton (2017), Rajkummar Rao has been part of films that have put the spotlight on the various issues that plague India. Recognising his efforts in initiating dialogue on social issues, the actor has been invited to address the National Police Academy in Hyderabad as part of its Independence Day celebrations. Currently juggling the shoot of Ekta Kapoor's Mental Hai Kya and promotions of his upcoming horror comedy Stree, the actor will take a day off from his film commitments to fly down to Hyderabad on August 18 for the event.

Revealing that "the police force's dedication towards their duty" is something he aspires to imbibe, Rao says it is his privilege to interact with the true heroes of the country. "I strongly believe that our cops work tirelessly for the citizens, and we feel safe and protected under their supervision. As civilized citizens, we have to be equally responsible towards the society that we are part of, and help cops to make the country a better place to live in," he says.

Lauding the men in uniforms for their bravery, Rao points out that all too often, we forget the personal sacrifices they have to make owing to their line of duty. He hopes to take the opportunity to thank them for their services during his forthcoming interaction. "What motivates me the most about our men in uniform is their honesty and dedication towards their duty, not to forget the way they conduct their disciplined lifestyle. Be it any government holiday or a festival, they are always on duty to ensure that the country and its citizens are safe." Sparing a thought to their families, he adds, "We can only imagine the hardships that the cops, and their families, have to face when it comes to making personal choices."
