Zeenat Aman

Zeenat Aman says gold guineas given by Raj Kapoor were stolen

Yesterday, Zeenat Aman started sharing a story about how she signed on for Raj Kapoor's Satyam Shivam Sundaram. The veteran actress, who is set to star in Bun Tikki, concluded her Instagram post by talking about how she reached the cottage where Raj Kapoor was staying, dressed in traditional clothing to embody 'Rupa.' Today, she continued her story and shared how she was officially inducted into the movie. Zeenat Aman says gold guineas given by Raj Kapoor were stolen She ended her caption yesterday saying, “When I reached The Cottage I was greeted at the door by John, Rajji's (Raj Kapoor) right-hand man. He looked quizzically at me but followed my request - ‘Saabji ko kaho ki Rupa ayi hai.'” Starting her story again, she stated, "Continued from yesterday Ever-reliable John delivered my message, and soon ushered me into Rajji’s view. Oh! How amused was the great director to see me dressed as a maimed village belle!" Talking about what transpired after she presented herself, Zeenat recalled, "I later learnt that he was very moved that an actress of my stature would go to such lengths to prove herself. When his laughter died down, Rajji excused himself to make a telephone call. Twenty minutes later, his most gracious wife Krishna ji was at the door with a handful of gold guineas in her purse. Rajji handed these to me with great aplomb as my signing amount… and so it was that I came to be Rupa." Zeenat Aman reveals Satyam Shivam Sundaram's money was stolen from her But the most shocking part of the story was undoubtedly the fact that the signing-on money was stolen from her home. The veteran actress said, "I held onto those guineas for decades until they were stolen from my home a few years ago. Still, given a choice between this memory and that gold, I will always choose the memory." "On another note, the image in my previous post depicts Rajji fixing my scars on set. The glue used to give me this appearance played absolute havoc on my skin for weeks! As for this wonderful picture of me with the Kapoors. I can’t for the life of me remember where it was taken! Any film buffs out there who can give me a clue?" She concluded.

Director Sanjay Gupta: ‘You cannot have fearless storytelling anymore’

There has been much talk about the entertainment industry making room for stories over stars. But the on-ground reality is different, says Sanjay Gupta. The filmmaker learnt it the hard way as he set out to make The Miranda Brothers, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Meezaan Jafri. “To pull off such a film isn’t easy. I started my digital wing because we cannot ignore OTT,” he states. The casting for the football drama, set to première on JioCinema, had to be simple. The director needed two actors well-versed in the sport. “I wanted to make the film immediately. If I were to go to Varun [Dhawan] or Sidharth [Malhotra], I would have to wait for a year. None of the stars at that time were willing to do a direct-to-OTT film. Even now, most of them are not. As I shot this movie in Goa, I learnt that I’m not dependent on a crew of 300. You can be a big-ticket director and yet make a movie that you feel for. Every film doesn’t have to be with mega stars.” Sanjay Gupta The Miranda Brothers is a departure for Gupta, who, over the past three decades, has made movies about the Bombay underworld—be it the Shootout franchise, or Mumbai Saga (2019). But today, even as the underworld has reared its ugly head again with Baba Siddique’s murder, the director says the current environment can’t be reflected on celluloid. “These times cannot be chronicled because everything is state-controlled, even crime. You have Lawrence Bishnoi sitting in the Sabarmati jail, putting out videos and messages. What’s going on! This is a show of law and order collapsing. Ektaa [R Kapoor] and I are working on the third edition of the Shootout franchise. One of the decisions we’ve made is not to set it in Mumbai. These are uncertain times. So, we are researching to do [a story] outside Mumbai.” Harshvardhan Rane and Meezaan Jafri in The Miranda Brothers  This restraint is not in crime stories alone. Gupta rues that he has to often hold back as a filmmaker, given the current scenario. “If you’re an intelligent filmmaker and not too stubborn, you make the changes yourself because the legal department and OTT platforms go through the script and they censor it [preemptively]. They say this may land us in trouble, that may land us in trouble. It’s an atmosphere of fear. You cannot have fearless storytelling anymore. My next show is based on a true story that happened in Mumbai in front of our eyes, it was appalling. But we’re changing the names because you can’t take names anymore. I feel disillusioned on behalf of the new generation of filmmakers. They all have a voice. But how many of them will be able to express what they truly want to? There is no medium. Earlier, it seemed that you can say what you want on OTT. But now it has become the most censored as people heavily come down on them. Today, the filmmaker’s agency is taken away.”

Babita Phogat opens up about Dangal

Despite Dangal's Rs 2000 crore success, Babita Phogat's family was paid Rs 1cr

Nitesh Tiwari's 2016 hit wrestling drama Dangal, featuring Aamir Khan, likely made Babita Phogat a well-known name, but it didn't help her family financially. In a recent interview with News 24, the wrestler-turned-politician revealed how much the Phogat family was paid by the filmmakers for the rights to tell their story. Babita Phogat on how much her family earned from 'Dangal' When asked how much money the Phogat family made from the makers of Dangal, she revealed it was less than 1% of the film's total box office earnings. To put it in perspective, Dangal made about ₹2,000 crore globally. When the host mentioned a figure of ₹20 crore for the Phogat family, she clarified that it was actually around ₹1 crore, which is half of 10% of that amount. This deal was finalized before Aamir Khan became involved as a producer, during the scripting phase with director Nitesh Tiwari's team. Babita revealed, “My father (Mahavir Singh Phogat) had said only one thing – ‘We want people’s respect and love. Leave everything else.'”  She mentioned that she became well-known thanks to the support of the people rather than just the movie. She also recalled that when Aamir joined the project, his team suggested changing the characters' names, but Mahavir wouldn't agree to that. Babita also shared that after Dangal was a big hit, her father proposed to Aamir's team that they open a wrestling academy in Haryana, “Of course, we were in talks with his team regarding the opening of an academy. They said neither yes nor no,” Babita added that the academy never really materialised. About Dangal Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari 'Dangal' was released in the year 2016. Starring actor Aamir Khan in the lead role the film was declared a blockbuster hit and is one of the highest-grossing Indian films. The film was based on India's first female wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari and their father Mahaveer Singh Phogat. Meanwhile, Aamir was recently seen in the family entertainer film 'Laal Singh Chaddha' which failed to impress the audience at the box office. Sanya, on the other hand, was seen in director Meghna Gulzar's biopic film 'Sam Bahadur', opposite Vicky Kaushal. Fatima will be next seen in director Anurag Basu's anthology film 'Metro...In Dino.'

Madhuri Dixit is the perfect choice for New Manjulika: Anees Bazmee

Filmmaker Aneez Bazmee, who is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated directorial 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3', has opened up about casting Madhuri Dixit as the new Manjulika.   In an exclusive interview with IANS, Bazmee revealed that when he initially considered casting Dixit for the role, he discussed it with the entire cast of the film, and they were all very happy. Aneez shared, “Madhuri is one of the biggest actresses in Bollywood; she is a star, and people love to see her on screen. So, when I thought of approaching her and discussed it with the cast, everyone was very happy and excited like kids". He added, “After seeing this excitement, I understood that if the people working with her were so enthusiastic, the audience would definitely love this. Besides, opposite Madhuri is Vidya Balan, who has been very much appreciated and loved by people. Now that she is returning after 17 years, audiences will surely love her work. I wanted someone who is a strong actress, who can act and dance very well, and who can do justice to this role. When I approached Madhuri, she was very happy and liked the script and character". When asked what inspired the storyline for ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, Aneez Bazmee shared, “When we were preparing the script for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, our primary focus wasn’t simply to create a sequel because the second part was a huge hit. Instead, we aimed to exceed the expectations of those who loved Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. With that in mind, we began by working on the story first. We developed five or six different storylines, but none resonated with us. It was a long, challenging, and time-consuming process.” He further said, “After extensive brainstorming and refinement, we finally discovered a script that truly excited me. I felt it could be presented in a fresh and engaging way for our audience, and it would meet their expectations. Once we finalized that script, we began the development of the movie from scratch". While Madhuri is the new addition to the hit franchise, the horror-comedy marks Vidya Balan’s return, reprising her iconic role as Manjulika from the 2007 hit. The project marks Aneez Bazmee’s first collaboration with Madhuri Dixit. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ is slated to hit theatres on November 1. "Did you misbehave?": Annu Kapoor reveals why Shashi Kapoor got 'angry' with him

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor knows no boundaries when it comes to exploring distinct roles in the film. Kapoor's breakthrough performance was in the 1984 film 'Utsav', which was produced by Shashi Kapoor and directed by Girish Karnad. Although, Annu Kapoor has a great respect for 'Jab Jab Phool Khile' star, there was a tiff between the two during the shooting of the film. In a exclusive conversation with ANI, he recalled what exactly led to the differences and why Shashi Kapoor got upset with him. He remembered shooting for 'Utsav', starring Shankar Nag, Shashi Kapoor, Rekha, Amjad Khan, Anuradha Patel, Shekhar Suman, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Annu Kapoor, Sanjana Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor. "We were playing cards in a tourist lodge in Bharatpur. Anupam Kher, Shekhar Suman, late Satish Kaushik were all sitting in my room. And the rest all big stars were inside the lodge. I gave an order for chai and paneer pakoda. The waiter asked for a cash. So I said, okay, what do I argue with that waiter? I took it out and gave him the money," he shared, adding, "Then I told a Bengali Dada from the production team that, 'Dada, next time we will bring ticket also' . That waiter came and told us to give him the cash. There was no problem in that. But better you could have said the same thing'." He went to Shashi Kapoor and told him everything, due to which he got upset, "That Bengali Dada was from the production team. He went and told Shashi Kapoor. When Shashi Kapoor got to know, he told Govind Nihalani. When he confronted me. Did you say that? Did you misbehave? I said, sir, what you think is a misbehaviour might be that is a right thing..." This argument created misunderstanding and differences between the two stars and Govind Nihalani conveyed to Annu Kapoor that Shashi Kapoor is angry and he said that a "small actor argued with me" The 'Mandi' actor continued, "I told him that I was just clarifying my point. When the shoot in Bangalore(Bengaluru) took place, he called me. I told him that I was going. He told me to come to his room. I reached his suite. He said that this is a ticket, go on Sanjana's(Shashi Kapoor's daughter) ticket. And he went inside and gave me Rs 7,000 rupees in a packet. I couldn't believe it. I touched his feet and got emotional. I made him understand my point and told him that you don't know the waiter at the Bharatpur lodge but you knew me so if you would have told me I would have gone to the 'thelevaala' and worked hard and never spent your money. After that, there was no problem." However, Kapoor is a great admirer of 'Kanyadaan', as he mentioned, "In these 42 years, the finest producers I've met, Shashi Kapoor is the first name among them. He will always be revered." Annu Kapoor is known for being part of movies such as 'Mandi', 'Utsav ', 'Mr. India', 'Tezaab', 'Ram Lakhan', 'Ghayal', 'Hum', 'Darr', 'Sardar', 'Om Jai Jagadish', 'Aitraaz' and '7 Khoon Maaf', among others. He also does a Radio show, titled Suhaana Safar With Annu Kapoor. Kapoor has directed several plays. He also directed a feature film 'Abhay', starring Nana Patekar. The actor also hosted the popular singing show 'Antakshari'. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
