After several intense films, Akshay Kumar eager to return to his favourite genre

While the country is lauding him for starting the much-needed dialogue on menstruation with Padman, Akshay Kumar has already gone back in time - the actor is currently shooting for the 1897 war drama, Kesari. The year ahead will see the superstar in the sci-fi flick 2.0 with Rajinikanth and Reema Kagti's Gold.

After doing a slew of intense films including Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), the actor says he is yearning to work on an out-and-out comedy. "It's been a while since I have done a full-on comedy film. It's a genre that I really enjoy working in," says Kumar. Point out how he will be back to tickling the audience's funny bone with Housefull 4, which is expected to go on floors by the end of the year, and he says, "I am looking forward to that film. Housefull 4 is going to be like a three-month vacation. For me, it's like a reunion of old friends." The fourth instalment of the comedy franchise will see Akshay Kumar reuniting with Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and director Sajid Khan.

A quick look at his filmography indicates how the actor has dabbled in various genres in the last few years - from a comedy like Housefull 3 (2016) to a thought-provoking film like Airlift (2016) and an actioner in Gabbar Is Back (2015). Kumar reveals it has been a conscious decision in order to survive in an industry that is quick to pigeonhole an artiste.
"I don't want the media to typecast me. Earlier, I was trapped with the image of an action hero. I couldn't experiment as they [the audience] wouldn't accept me in a different avatar. That phase of my career impacted me deeply. That's why I constantly change the kind of films I do," he reasons.
Although he is glad with the success of his last outing, Kumar says Pad Man hasn't been able to fully remove the stigma attached to menstruation. "There is a section of the audience, in places like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, who are hesitating to go for the movie. I noticed that men are not allowing their wives to watch it. I want to break that with the film."
