It’s easy to get lost in the brouhaha surrounding a star kid’s launch. But Tara Sutaria harbours no such fears. Even though all eyes are on Ahan Shetty as he makes his Bollywood debut this weekend with Tadap, Sutaria — who plays his love interest in the Milan Luthria-directed film — is confident that her role will grab the audiences’ attention. “My character here is different from what I played in Marjaavaan [2019] and Student of the Year 2 [2019], or for that matter, from the roles that other actresses are doing. It is strong and well-written. Tadap is Ahan’s launch [vehicle], but I was happy to see that Ramisa [her character] is present throughout the story and [influences] it. I am grateful to Milan sir for that.”

A fan of tragic love stories, the actor remembers being moved by the script narration. Little did she know that she would be joined by Shetty junior in the drama. “I didn’t know who was [the lead]. Milan sir asked us to perform a scene. Ahan and I did it, and it was liked by everyone,” she recounts. Tadap, a remake of the Telugu film RX 100 (2018), is among the first few films to be theatre-bound after the shutdown. “Someone was discussing the films to be released in theatres. When Tadap was mentioned, it hit me that it’s a big deal for our film to release so soon after the pandemic.”
