Communicative English skills are important for students to succeed in today's globalized world. However, students from vernacular medium schools often face significant challenges in mastering speaking in English. To address this, Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) presents the Communicative English - Future Readiness Program which is specifically designed for middle-school students. Our program is targeted towards students who may have limited exposure to the English language.
Ms. Jayasree Ramesh, Director, Education & Scholarships, Kotak Education Foundation said, “Our digitised Communicative English program is a passport to global opportunities. More than just language learning, this program empowers learners with 21st-century skills, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and global citizenship. By embedding Financial and Digital literacy, this is truly a Future-ready program”.
The CE-FR Digitized Content aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) and incorporating 21st-century skills, fosters socio-emotional learning through engaging activities and interactive experiences that promote critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. This digitized content offers numerous advantages, including accessibility, flexibility, interactivity, and customization, making the learning process more enjoyable, effective, and accessible to a wider range of learners, regardless of their location, background, or learning style.
Features of multidisciplinary Digitized Communicative English Language Content:
1. Holistic Language Learning: Integrates various disciplines and subject areas into the language learning process. It allows learners to develop language skills while simultaneously gaining knowledge in other fields, such as science, history, arts, or technology.
2. Enhanced Engagement: It offers a variety of resources, such as interactive videos and collaborative projects, which capture learners' attention and actively involve them in the learning process.
3. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: Learners engage in activities that require them to evaluate information, make connections, draw conclusions, and express their ideas effectively.
4. Collaboration and Communication: Incorporates collaborative learning activities that require learners to work together, communicate ideas, and negotiate meaning. This collaborative approach fosters communication skills, including listening, speaking, and writing, as learners interact with peers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
5. Digital Literacy Skills: Learners navigate through digital platforms, utilize online resources, and effectively communicate using digital tools. These skills are increasingly crucial in today's interconnected world.
6. Flexibility and Access: Offers learners the flexibility to access materials, providing equitable access to quality educational content.
In a journey spanning 17 years of transforming lives, KEF has impacted the lives of more than 50,000 students with the Communicative English Program. This program reinforces the communicative language skills of students, thereby building their confidence and ability to cope with higher studies and career. The CE-FR program is a three-year journey, starting with a Foundation Course to build vocabulary and language basics. Based on the coordination of language and physical movement, the Foundation Course aims to create a stress-free environment for language acquisition. In Communicative English Future Readiness Bud, students embark on their English language journey by mastering the sounds of letters and revisiting familiar two and three-letter words. Building upon the foundation established in Future Readiness Bud, Communicative English Future Readiness Bloom delves deeper into language acquisition. In Communicative English Future Readiness Bouquet, students develop advanced speaking skills through a multi-faceted approach.

It has been a rewarding seventeen years since we embarked on our mission to equip children and youth from underserved communities with education and 21st-century skills, galvanising them towards a better future. Our ‘Inch Wide Mile Deep’ approach, home-grown projects focussed on quality education for the low-income segment, has been instrumental in shaping the success of our projects across India. KEF’s approach is primarily three-pronged –
- Holistic interventions with children and educators in school
- Equitable scholarships for higher studies
- Vocational education and skills training for livelihood.
Strengthening school leadership and teacher capacity building, upskilling primary school teachers to provide Foundational Literacy & Numeracy skills, creating a digital ecosystem and a safe, positive learning environment, equipping middle and secondary school students with confidence and Communicative English and Future Readiness skills, supporting districts in running Model Schools – these are key interventions run by KEF in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and AP. Integrally, the aim is to build the systemic capacity of educators and the scalability of student learning outcomes in collaboration with the government and key stakeholders.
KEF launched the Kotak Kanya Scholarship, PAN-India, in 2021 to offer financial and academic support to meritorious female students for the pursuit of higher education at premier institutes. Kotak Junior Scholarship, a leading scholarship in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, supports meritorious students in pursuing 11th and 12th Standards. Kotak Graduate Scholarship helps high achievers in Class 12 pursue professional courses and supports them until graduation. These and other groundbreaking scholarships provide timely aid and play a crucial role in making education accessible to students who are talented but financially constrained.
KEF’s Vocational Education & Livelihood Project upskills unemployed youth from economically weaker sections of society and coaches them in domain know-how, IT basics and spoken English, life skills and personality development. It ensures placements for all eligible participants so they can stride with confidence into any professional sphere.
KEF is now at the cusp of change as it prepares for the next chapter in its journey toward empowering children and youth with quality education and livelihood skills. Armed with vast experience and expertise, the organisation aims to scale the depth and breadth of its reach. KEF’s philosophy is evolving from ‘school as a unit’ to working toward district/state-level education transformation. As KEF expands its ambit, it will help drive systemic reform and state education transformation to create long-term Impact at Scale.
