Payal Ghosh talks about love for Christmas and her Upcoming Films

"The year just gone by was generally a good year for me as many promising ideas have come up, though the period was not very happening. As compared to 2020, this year was a shade better and I am enthusiastically looking up to 2022. The planning made this year would be fructifying into reality in the coming year," says actress Payal Ghosh who plays the lead roles in upcoming films RED and NEW YORK TO HARIDWAR.

"Among the projects that I have completed is my upcoming film RED which is almost at the completion stage. What happened was that during the second lockdown, there were issues of dates with my co-star Krushna Abhishek due to his prior commitments. What is left is a couple of days shooting and very soon we will be announcing its release date," she adds.

"The other film that I am doing is New York to Haridwar is also delayed due to obtaining the US visas due to the pandemic as originally it was planned to have a Nov-Dec shoot in the US. I cannot see the chances of shoot in the US opening up till Feb or March, hence we shall begin and complete the Indian leg of our shooting in Haridwar," she adds further, "As it is too cold in January, hence we shall commence this part of the film by middle of February."

After impressive performances in Prayanam (Telugu), Sharpe's Peril (for BBC), Oosaravelli (Telugu) and winning hearts of her fans in 'Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi', actress Payal Ghosh speaks about her current activities, "Presently I have my hands full with events like my performances and appearances all over the world. I have just finished several events in the United Arab Emirates and now am scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for the New Year's Eve performance. Thank God that I do not have to face the problem of sitting idle (Smiles)."

Here are some questions to actress Payal Ghosh regarding her personal life and upcoming ventures.

What are your sweet memories of Christmas, could be probably of your adolescent days?

Obviously, the fun of enjoying Christmas was during the time when I was a kid during my primary school days in St. Paul's Mission school. The sweetest memory is that of hanging our socks outside our doors for the hope of getting a gift from the Santa Clause. That was really charming. Our parents used to tell us that if you behave properly and study hard, then Santa would come up on the Christmas eve and drop lovely gifts for you (she giggles).

During one chilly winter in Kolkata I got up in the middle of the night to see whether Santa has delivered gifts for me just to see that it was empty! Then I noticed that all doors and windows were shut, hence I kept my bathroom window open for Santa to get into the house. The next morning I woke up to see my Dolls and sweets and I was so delighted! (Laughs).

And then in College days?

While in college I started working in films simultaneously. My attitude shifted to getting the Christmas Tree and decorating the house. During vacations I made it a point to be in Kolkata for celebrating Christmas and I loved being around in Park Street which is always well decorated. I still try to be around there.

When is your movie RED releasing? And a bit about your role.

My forthcoming film with Krushna Abhishek should release in about 3-4 months time. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the Omicron wave dies down by then. I play several shades of a school girl, college student, a wife and then even that of an escort. This is a gripping film and that is all I can reveal now.

What is character that you play in your upcoming film New York to Haridwar?

I play a depressed girl in the US who comes to visit India. She travels all around India and then when she reaches Haridwar, she realizes that it is the most awesome place. It is here in Haridwar that this girl gets to know the beauty of Indian culture and its serene life. The film is directed Rajiv Chaudhary (of Beimaan Love and producer of RED) and is a touchy story of this girl who ultimately finds solace in spirituality in Haridwar and also comes across a boy who thinks along those spiritual lines.

New York to Haridwar should definitely connect with the youth as it gives positive vibes of Indian culture and traditions. Also, there are newspaper reports of a few top Hollywood actresses who on their visit to India and have discovered the magical influence of Haridwar that has changed their lives.

Why haven’t we seen you in Web Series as yet?

Though I received several offers for web series; most of them had bold scenes and usage of foul language and lacked sophistication. I usually shun away from such roles as I do not think that using abusive language or expressions  leads to performance oriented roles. Though lately a few of good web series have come up and I am considering taking them. Let’s see... how this turns out.

We have just heard that you are offered a good role in a South Indian film. Is that right?

I have a huge fan base in the Southern states of India as I have been a part of many events and shows there. Lately I have done many appearances for Jewelry and Saree shops openings. This is the latest trend there in South.

Talks with a major studio in the South are at an advanced stage for a big budget commercial love story. This is what I can disclose at the moment. Nothing more than that.
