Aurangzeb's tomb removal demand causes chaos in Maharashtra

Aurangzeb's tomb removal demand causes chaos in Maharashtra

On March 17, members of the Bajrang Dal staged a protest in front of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb`s tomb located in Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad). The demonstrators were seen raising slogans against the government, calling for action on the matter. The protest comes after Bajrang Dal leader Nitin Mahajan made a public demand for the removal of Aurangzeb`s tomb in the region. This call for action has been supported by other political and religious groups, including Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam. Nirupam backed the demand from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for the tomb`s removal, stating that such a demand was not unreasonable given the ongoing debate in the country over Aurangzeb’s historical actions. In response to the protests and growing tension around the issue, security forces have been deployed at the site of Aurangzeb`s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to maintain law and order. This controversy highlights the ongoing debates over historical figures and their legacies, with some groups calling for changes to the public memory associated with them. The Maharashtra government has yet to make any official statement regarding the demand.... [Read More]

US Continues strikes on Houthis amid growing tensions over shipping attacks

US Continues strikes on Houthis amid growing tensions over shipping attacks

U.S. Central Command confirmed on March 16 that American forces are continuing operations against Yemen`s Houthi group. Washington has vowed to keep striking until the Houthis stop attacking shipping. A video released by the U.S. military shows fighter jets taking off from an undisclosed location, though Reuters could not verify the video`s date or location. On March 17, Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported that the U.S. launched two airstrikes on Hodeidah. In response, the Houthis warned they might escalate their attacks in retaliation for the U.S. airstrikes on March 15. President Trump announced a "decisive and powerful" military response against the Houthis on March 15, accusing them of piracy, violence, and terrorism targeting American assets. Trump said, "I’ve ordered the U.S. Military to take decisive action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen, who have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American and other ships, aircraft, and drones." Trump also emphasized that the U.S. would use "overwhelming lethal force" against the Houthis, citing their actions as harmful to global trade by choking transportation routes like the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, and violating the principle of Freedom of Navigation. These airstrikes, which the Houthi-run health ministry claims killed at least 53 people, are the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office. A U.S. official said the campaign could last for weeks. The Houthis, who have controlled much of Yemen for years, have launched numerous attacks on shipping since the Israel-Hamas conflict began in late 2023, citing support for Palestinians in Gaza.... North Macedonia fire tragedy: Over 59 killed & over 100 injured

A deadly fire broke out at the `Pulse` nightclub in Kocani, North Macedonia, on March 16, killing at least 59 people and injuring more than 100. The fire quickly spread to the ceiling and roof of the packed club, causing widespread panic. A video verified by Reuters showed a band performing on stage with two flares that sent white sparks into the air, which ignited the ceiling. The fire left many people trapped, and several were rushed to hospitals in Skopje and surrounding areas for treatment. Some were also sent to neighboring countries for further care. Simeon Sokolov, 50, said his daughter Anastasija, 23, was being treated in the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. Relatives of the victims gathered outside hospitals, anxiously awaiting news on their loved ones` conditions. Among the injured, 27 people were reported to have severe burns, and 18 were in critical condition. In connection with the fire, police have detained the nightclub owner, and arrest warrants have been issued for four others. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze, which has shaken the small town of Kocani and the entire country.... [Read More]
