Kazan: Britain's Adam Peaty and American Katie Ledecky broke world marks in the men's 50m breaststroke and women's 1500m freestyle events respectively at the FINA swimming world championships yesterday.

Peaty clocked 26.62secs in the semi-finals to break the previous mark of 26.62secs set by South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh earlier in the heats yesterday. Ledecky, meanwhile demolished her own world record, knocking 2.23 seconds off her own personal best to clock 15 minutes, 25.48secs.

Sejwal, Sajan fail
Meanwhile, Indian swimmers Sandeep Sejwal and Sajan Prakash failed to qualify for the semi-finals of their respective categories here yesterday. Olympian Sejwal disappointed in the men's 50 metres breaststroke, and Sajan had a similar result in men's 200m butterfly here.
