IN PHOTOS: Key highlights of PM Modi's historic visit to Guyana

PM Modi highlighted the deep bonds between India and Guyana, emphasising shared culture, cuisine, and the mutual passion for cricket. He described cricket as a way of life for both nations, celebrating the role it plays in their national identities. Recognising the unique Indo-Guyanese culinary traditions, Modi noted the popular Dalpuri as a blend of Indian and Guyanese influences. Modi saluted the Indo-Guyanese diaspora for their contributions to Guyana’s development, calling them "rashtradoots" (ambassadors of Indian culture).
 
PM Modi was conferred with Guyana’s highest national award, The Order of Excellence, recognising his contributions and the Indo-Guyanese community’s role in the nation. Modi underscored the common struggles against colonial rule and the mutual respect for democratic values and cultural diversity as pillars of the India-Guyana relationship.
The visit saw an agreement to expand collaboration in energy, agriculture, Ayurveda, innovation, and human resources, among other sectors. Modi emphasised the shared vision of India and Guyana in advocating for reformed multilateralism, inclusive development, and climate justice as part of the Global South.
 As part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, Modi planted a tree alongside President Ali and his grandmother, marking a memorable and emotional moment of the visit. Modi acknowledged the Indo-Guyanese community as "doubly blessed", cherishing Guyana as their homeland while maintaining a deep connection with India.
Co-chairing the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, Modi proposed key pillars to enhance India-Caribbean ties, furthering collaboration in areas of mutual interest.  Modi outlined India’s rapid economic growth, technological advancements in space exploration, and its rise to becoming the world’s 5th largest economy, inspiring global communities, including those in Guyana.
