Hezbollah has not commented on the attack, and there is no immediate information on casualties. The strike follows Friday’s Israeli attack on Beirut, the first since a ceasefire in November.
Unlike the previous attack, no advance warning was given before the latest airstrike. Photos and videos show severe damage to the top floors of an apartment building. Israeli jets were heard in the Lebanese capital before the strike in the Hay Madi neighbourhood.
Hezbollah’s leader, Sheikh Naim Kassem, has warned of potential retaliation if attacks persist. Under a US-brokered ceasefire, Israeli forces were meant to withdraw from Lebanese territory by January.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued daily strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Lebanon has called on the international community to pressure Israel into halting its attacks.

The Lebanese military has gradually deployed in the south but says Israeli forces remain on five hilltops.
