60 Indians rescued from job scam in Cambodia return home

The Indian Embassy in Cambodia reported on Thursday that 60 Indian nationals who were rescued from fraudulent employers have safely returned home. These people were evacuated from Jinbei-4 on May 20 in cooperation with Sihanoukville authorities.

The Embassy emphasised its continuous commitment to assisting Indians overseas and thanked Cambodian authorities for their assistance during the operation. The Embassy stated on social media that these rescued individuals were transferred from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, where the Embassy assisted them with travel documents and other arrangements for their return to India.

In a post on X, the Indian embassy said, "Always committed to helping Indians abroad. First batch of 60 Indian nationals rescued by the Indian Embassy in Cambodia from fraudulent employers returned home. Thank the Cambodian authorities for their support."

Further in another post the Indian Embassy disclosed that, "These individuals were transferred from Sihanoukville, in Cambodia to Phnom Penh today with assistance from the Embassy for travel documents and other arrangements to facilitate their return home."

"60 nationals have been rescued by the Embassy in cooperation with Sihanoukville(SHV)authority. These nationals, victims of fraudulent employment, were sent from SHV to PhnomPenh today. Embassy is assisting with travel documents & other arrangements for their early return home," Indian Embassy in Cambodia said on X.

The Embassy has been vigilant in giving warnings to Indians seeking work in Cambodia, advising them to use only authorised agencies approved by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The recommendations also warn against accepting jobs on tourist visas or engaging in criminal activity.

The Indian Embassy maintains regular communication with Cambodian authorities and continues to offer assistance and information to Indian nationals. A temporary control room was set up in Sihanoukville from May 21 to 23 to assist people affected.

The Government of India and the Embassy of India are committed to assisting Indian people who have been victims of unscrupulous elements in scam centres. To far, the Embassy has rescued or repatriated over 360 Indian people.

"The Embassy of India, Phnom Penh is in touch with several Indian nationals who have reached out to us, and who have been subsequently evacuated by Cambodian authorities from a place called Jinbei-4 on May 20," the Indian Embassy in Cambodia said in a press release.

"Cambodian authorities have informed us that around 60 Indian nationals have been sent from SHV to Phnom Penh today so that they can be sent back to India with the Embassy's assistance for travel documents, etc." the release added.
