Making sense of the good, bad and often strange trending topics online

There's no such thing as bad publicity, at least as far as Indian television is concerned.

This may be why reports of Maria Susairaj being offered a spot on Bigg Boss quickly made their way across social networking sites.

The reports were then rubbished, and followed by new reports of former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu being offered a large amount to be part of the show. While some greeted this with nonchalance, others made their unhappiness felt.

Take, for instance, this tweet by Adi Reeves: 'Bigg Boss is about a bunch of retards acting like retards, for a show made by retards for retards.' Or this, from Anurag Bansal: 'If Sidhu gets crores, others can charge more in order to tolerate him for a month.'

Loser takes all
So, Novak Djokovic became the new World No. 1 after defeating Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon. Interestingly though, the folk online made the latter a trending topic.

A certain Natalie put this scenario into perspective: 'Poor Nadal? Spare a thought for the multi-millionaire, handsome, adored former world number 1 with the super hot girlfriend.'

Stephen Kelly found it strange, too: 'Poor Nadal is trending. Pretty funny considering he just picked up a cheque for ufffd550,000.'

Roadhouse Blues
Former members of The Doors paid homage to the band's lead singer Jim Morrison on his 40th death anniversary by lighting candles at his grave.

Online, he became a trending topic. Jeremy tweeted: 'I'm sure at least half of the people saying RIP Jim Morrison couldn't name more than 1-2 songs by The Doors.' Lou Brutus added: 'I wonder how many people seeing this are thinking, OMG, Jim Morrison has died?'

The last word
How not to stretch a metaphor, courtesy Kiran Bedi: 'Lokpal was an orphaned baby parented by Anna and the people. It has finally been found by its relatives. Happy to see baby going home (Parliament).'
