Vijay Diwas celebrations in Dhaka began with 31 gunshots at sunrise. The Bangladesh Army`s artillery regiment fired 31 rounds to honor the Bravehearts who sacrificed their lives in the Bangladesh Liberation War. This day marks December 16, 1971, when General Amir Abdullah Niazi, the head of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, surrendered along with 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to the Indian Army and the Mukti Bahini of Bangladesh. This historic event led to the creation of Bangladesh as an independent nation. Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year to remember the courage and sacrifices made during the war for freedom and independence.
