The incident occurred in a residential area, Lohia Nagar locality, where the remnants of machinery used in soap manufacturing were discovered. District Magistrate Deepak Meena clarified that the machinery indicated either soap production or packaging was taking place on the premises.
All the injured individuals were swiftly transported to a medical college, where regrettably, four of them succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by the District Magistrate.
Amid speculations regarding the nature of activities within the building, Deepak Meena clarified that it was not a firecracker manufacturing unit, dispelling any such rumours.
Instead, it was a godown where soap was either being produced or packaged, with associated machinery found on the premises.
The building belonged to Sanjay Gupta, who had rented it out to others. The soap factory was operated from the ground floor of the structure. Unfortunately, the explosion resulted in the complete destruction of the building.
In response to the incident, a magisterial inquiry has been initiated, with Additional District Magistrate (city) and four other officers tasked with the investigation. A comprehensive report is expected within 48 hours. The inquiry will also examine how a manufacturing unit was operating within a residential area of the city.
