Amritsar's Golden Temple witnessed heavy footfall as devotees gathered for the harvest festival. Other major places of worship in Punjab, including Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib in Bathinda, and Dukh Nivaran Sahib in Patiala, also saw a significant rush on Sunday

Members of the Sikh community gathered at a gurdwara in Bengaluru, Karnataka, to offer prayers on Baisakhi. The festival also marks the foundation day of the 'Khalsa Panth (Sikh order)' by the 10th Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh

According to legend, Guru Gobind Singh called upon men willing to sacrifice for their faith. Five stepped forward and became the Panj Pyare, marking the birth of the Khalsa

The festival of Baisakhi marks the Sikh New Year and is a spring harvest festival celebrated in Punjab and other parts of north India

Celebrations include kirtans, visits to gurdwaras, community fairs, and nagar kirtan processions. Sikhs raise the Nishan Sahib flag, and the occasion brings people together to socialise and share festive meals

The festival has also reached beyond the country's borders, thanks to the Sikh diaspora in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia, where it is traditionally celebrated with great fervour
