Commando units rehearsed anti-terror operations and demonstrated various security measures during the mock drill. DGP Prashant Kumar assured that complete security arrangements have been made for the Mahakumbh Mela, which is expected to attract millions of devotees.
Surveillance measures include the installation of CCTVs throughout the entire Mahakumbh area to ensure public safety. The Uttar Pradesh police have coordinated with various departments to ensure that all precautions are in place, especially with the expected attendance of 40 to 50 crore people.
Uttar Pradesh police have deployed underwater drones and installed 2,700 AI-enabled cameras in and around the Mahakumbh campsite area to enhance security. A grand Shobha Yatra was held earlier, with several Akharas participating in the vibrant procession, symbolising the devotion of sadhus and devotees.
The Mahakumbh Mela will commence on January 13 and conclude on February 26 in Prayagraj, marking the culmination of a 12-year cycle. The main bathing rituals, known as Shahi Snan (royal baths), will take place on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).

Uttar Pradesh Minister JPS Rathore confirmed that over 45 crore devotees are expected to attend the Mahakumbh this year, with Prayagraj fully prepared to host them. The Uttar Pradesh Culture Department will set up 20 stages at key locations across Prayagraj, where folk dance performances from various Indian states will showcase the country's diverse cultural heritage
