Security forces, on Friday, launched a massive cordon and search operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district's forest area.

The operation began one day after five army personnel were killed and two others injured in a terrorist attack.

An official mentioned that they are conducting aerial monitoring alongside using sniffer dogs to trace the terrorists responsible for ambushing two Army vehicles in the area the previous day.

The official said that a substantial cordon and search operation commenced in the morning, preceded by a night-long cordon in the area. Additional troops were deployed to intensify efforts in tracking down the assailants involved in the attack.

On Thursday afternoon, at a blind curve along the Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, under Surankote police station's jurisdiction, terrorists attacked two army vehicles carrying personnel to the site of a cordon-and-search operation.

The Dhera Ki Gali (DKG) Road has been closed to traffic owing to the ongoing operation. This measure was taken after the assailants, believed to be three to four in number, positioned themselves on hilltops and strategically attacked the army vehicles.

Following the assault, reports indicated that the assailants mutilated the bodies of at least two soldiers and seized weapons from some of them.

Security officials are investigating the attack site to understand the weapons' nature, including the use of steel core bullets in the ambush. Top officials from the army and police are actively overseeing the situation on the ground.
