IN PHOTOS: Rekha Gupta sworn in as Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister

Rekha Gupta has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi, becoming the fourth woman to hold the post in the national capital. Six other ministers, including Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh, were also sworn in. Prominent BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President JP Nadda, attended the grand ceremony.

Rekha Gupta, an MLA from Shalimar Bagh, has held key organisational roles in the BJP, including serving as the general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi. She started her political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later became the President of the Delhi University Students' Union in 1996-97.
With BJP focusing on women’s empowerment, her appointment underscores the party’s commitment to increasing female representation in leadership roles. Gupta, a first-time MLA, was chosen over more senior party leaders, marking a shift in BJP’s approach to governance in the national capital.
She has pledged to fulfil all commitments made in the BJP’s election manifesto and adopt a hands-on approach to governance. Vowing to combat corruption, she stated that all individuals involved in financial misconduct will be held accountable.

She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the BJP high command for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading Delhi. The BJP secured a historic victory with 48 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, unseating the Aam Aadmi Party from power.
