Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse, the world's largest hub for international diamond and jewellery business, in Gujarat.

During his visit, PM Modi also unveiled the new integrated terminal at Surat's international airport, emphasizing the city's growing prominence as a hub for economic development and infrastructural advancements.

In his address, Modi hailed the Surat diamond industry for currently employing around 8 lakh individuals and projected an additional creation of 1.5 lakh jobs due to the establishment of the new diamond bourse.

The Surat Diamond Bourse, located near Surat city in Khajod village, boasts of being the world's largest office complex, spanning over an impressive 67 lakh square feet, signalling a significant leap in India's trading capabilities on the global stage.

Functioning as a pivotal trading centre for both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewellery, the bourse offers a comprehensive setup including a cutting-edge 'Customs Clearance House' for import and export, a jewellery mall, and international banking facilities.

The inauguration of this monumental structure underscores India's prowess in design, material, and innovation, serving as a symbolic testament to the country's determination and economic strength.

The Surat Diamond Bourse forms an integral part of the ambitious Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City project, conceived to revolutionize India's diamond industry landscape and reinforce its global competitiveness.

This colossal building houses approximately 4,500 trading offices across nine towers, ranging from 15 floors, reflecting an ambitious initiative towards facilitating and enhancing the trade infrastructure for the diamond industry.

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel initiated the SDB and DREAM City project in 2015, marking the beginning of a transformative journey in establishing Surat as a global trade destination.

With its colossal size and state-of-the-art facilities, the Surat Diamond Bourse not only signifies a breakthrough in India's diamond industry but also represents a major stride in advancing the nation's economic capabilities on an international scale.
