President Muizzu is in India for an extensive discussions on strengthening bilateral ties that are emerging after hitting a rocky patch last year

Earlier, Muizzu was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan by President Droupadi Murmu. PM Modi was also present on the occasion

Following the bilateral meeting, the two leaders also held delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House

This is Muizzu's first state visit to India since assuming office in November last year

He had visited Delhi in June for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi's third term in office

The ties between India and the Maldives came under severe strain since Muizzu took charge of the top office in November

The Ministry of External Affairs said on Sunday that the "visit will provide further boost to this long-standing India-Maldives comprehensive bilateral partnership".

Muizzu will hold discussions with Modi on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
