For first time, a large-scale Diwali celebration was held at Lal Chowk’s historic clock tower in Srinagar, drawing both locals & tourists to join festivities

Hundreds gathered to light diyas, turning the bustling city centre into a vibrant and illuminated spot, creating a festive atmosphere for all.

Rashmi, a tourist from Rajkot, Gujarat, expressed her joy, saying she had never seen such a lively atmosphere, while another tourist thanked locals for their support and enthusiasm.

Security was enhanced around Lal Chowk to ensure the Diwali celebrations proceeded smoothly, reflecting a new era of peace and safety in the region.

A tourist from Gujarat remarked on the peaceful environment, describing the celebrations in Kashmir as better than any he had seen in his home state, encouraging others to visit.

Celebrated widely across India, Diwali represents the victory of light over darkness, with diyas, candles, and lights illuminating homes and streets.

Diwali’s rituals include purchasing items on Dhanteras, lighting diyas, performing pujas for prosperity, and decorating with rangoli to invite blessings.

Diwali is a time for people to come together, share sweets, wear new clothes, and exchange gifts, symbolising joy and unity across communities.

While traditions are honoured, Diwali celebrations are evolving to include green practices like eco-friendly firecrackers, ensuring a sustainable approach to festivities.
