A 22-year-old woman was rescued after a two-hour effort and sent to a hospital for advanced treatment. Officials estimate that five individuals may still be trapped under the debris, though exact numbers remain unconfirmed.
Excavators and other heavy machinery are being used to clear the rubble and locate survivors. Preliminary investigations suggest the collapse occurred due to digging on an adjacent plot.
The collapsed building reportedly housed a gym frequented by young people, raising concerns about potential casualties. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed grief over the incident and assured that action would be taken against those responsible.
The Chief Minister urged the public to cooperate with rescue teams and remain vigilant. Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek stated that lighting arrangements and public assistance are aiding the ongoing rescue efforts.
AAP MP Malwinder Singh Kang and Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh visited the site to oversee the rescue operation. The incident has sparked concerns about safety regulations and accountability in construction practices.
