The World Air Quality Report 2024 by Swiss air quality technology company IQAir said Delhi remains the most polluted capital city globally
Along with New Delhi, Greater Noida is ranked 2nd on the AQI list of 2024, with annual average of 166
India ranked as the world's fifth most polluted country in 2024, marking an improvement from its third rank in 2023
The high level of pollution in Byrnihat, a town on the Assam-Meghalaya border, is due to emissions from local factories, including distilleries, iron and steel plants.
Faridabad's annual average AQI is 154 owing to a seven-per cent decline in PM 2.5 concentrations, according to the World Air Quality Report 2024
The level dropped from an average of 54.4 micrograms per cubic meter in 2023 to 50.6 micrograms per cubic meter in Gurgaon
Along with India, Bangladesh and Pakistan also had the highest AQI levels
