Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the bill in the first sitting of Lok Sabha and said that once passed, the number of seats for women in Lok Sabha will increase to 181.

The Women Reservation Bill seeks to guarantee 33 per quota for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies; it was introduced as the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill by Union law minister.

The Bill’s introduction was celebrated by representatives of all political parties. Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Patna played Holi and burst fire crackers as a mark of their celebrations.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress workers were also seen dancing to the tunes of dhol—Indian percussion instrument—and had posters up thanking Sonia Gandhi. The bill was reportedly first introduced by the UPA government.

Actors Kangana Ranaut, Eesha Gupta and Sapna Chaudhary, who were special invitees, also lauded the Women’s Reservation Bill and later posed with Parliamentarians for photos.
