The Aam Aadmi Party, led by Chief Minister-designate Atishi, claimed claim to form a new government in Delhi on Tuesday, just after Arvind Kejriwal quit.

As Delhi is all set to get its third woman CM; let's take a look back at all the women who have served as the Chief Ministers in India.

Uma Bharti, was Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, from 2003 to 2004. During her tenure, she focused on development and Hindutva-based governance but resigned due to legal issues surrounding a past criminal case.

Vasundhara Raje Scindia, the first female Chief Minister of Rajasthan, served two terms (2003-2008, 2013-2018). She focused on economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and women's empowerment in the state.

Rabri Devi was the first woman Chief Minister of Bihar, she served three terms (1997-2005). Rabri Devi was often perceived as a proxy for her husband, Lalu Prasad Yadav, but still led during politically turbulent times.

Anandiben Patel, Gujarat's first woman Chief Minister (2014-2016), worked on women’s empowerment, education, and infrastructure but resigned amid unrest and protests in the state.

Mayawati--a leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party--served four terms as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, focusing on the upliftment of Dalits and backward castes, and undertaking significant infrastructure projects.

Jayalalithaa was one of the iconic Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu who served multiple terms. She is known for her welfare schemes, populist measures, and strong leadership that deeply influenced the state's political landscape.

Mamata Banerjee, serving as the Chief Minister of West Bengal since 2011, she is known for her populist policies, grassroots connection, and efforts to reduce the state's poverty and industrial stagnation. Currently, she's embroiled in controversy due to Kolkata doctor rape-murder case.

Sushma Swaraj, who was a prominent BJP leader, briefly served as the Chief Minister of Delhi in 1998, focusing on improving Delhi’s infrastructure and governance. Though her term was short, she later gained national recognition as an impactful External Affairs Minister.

Mehbooba Mufti Syed, as Jammu and Kashmir's first woman Chief Minister (2016-2018), led during a politically sensitive period, focusing on peace-building but faced challenges due to the region's unrest.

Serving as Delhi's Chief Minister from 1998 to 2013, Sheila Dixit was known for modernising the city’s infrastructure, including metro expansion, and overseeing rapid urban development during her 15-year tenure.
