Artist Tyeb Mehta'su00a0 triptych, Celebrations, was auctioned in September 2002 for Rs 1.5 crore, the highest ever paid at that point to an Indian artist. Later that year, M F Husain's Lightning, made in 1975, was sold for Rs 2 crore.

Status now: Tyeb Mehta, 84, died on July 2 this year of a heart attack in Mumbai. His works are on display at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, England.
