After the Rajya Sabha polls, 10 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council are up for grabs. A total of 11 candidates are in the fray for the 10 seats, with the MVA allies Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress fielding two candidates each. The BJP has nominated five candidates. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray arrived at Vidhan Bhavan ahead of the MLC polls

Maharashtra Cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray also reached Vidhan Bhavan. The polling process began at 9 am in the state Legislature complex and will end at 4 pm. The results will be declared in the evening

While the tenure of nine sitting members of the Legislative Council is coming to an end on July 7, the election for the 10th seat was necessitated following the death of a BJP legislator earlier this year

NCP MP and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule also reached Vidhan Bhavan ahead of the polls

The quota for first preference votes per candidate to win the MLC polls is 26. The BJP has 106 MLAs, Shiv Sena-55, Congress-44 and NCP-52

 

The Congress has fielded Mumbai Congress chief Bhai Jagtap and former minister Chandrakant Handore. Former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan was also present at Vidhan Bhavan

'Till 11.15 am, 145 MLAs exercised their franchise,' an official from the Vidhan Bhavan said
