People, who were caught unawares, were spotted running and seeking cover under trees or use their handkerchiefs, towels as protection.

The children were seen rejoicing in the heavy rainfall as they headed back home from their schools.

The city and suburbs have been witnessing sporadic moderate to heavy showers after a lull of a couple days.

The India Meteorological Department had forecasted a cloudy sky with moderate rain likely in Mumbai.

Maximum temperature, the IMD said, is expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius; minimum temperature to settle at 27 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had advised of a high tide of 3.67 meters at 9:14 pm and a low tide of 2.32 meters at 3:26 pm today.

IMD declares the onset of southwest monsoon over Mumbai on June 9, earlier than the usual date of June 11.

Southwest monsoon has advanced over parts of the central Arabian Sea, south Maharashtra, Telangana, south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

This year’s monsoon onset in Mumbai was two days earlier than average, with Kerala experiencing widespread pre-monsoon rains.

After the monsoon onset on June 9, Mumbai experienced a sultry weather phase with minimal rain for the past two days.

However, Delhi is facing heatwave to severe heatwave conditions with a predicted maximum temperature of around 45 degrees Celsius. IMD issued a red alert for Delhi, indicating action needed due to severe weather conditions.
