The landing will be part of a test to ensure that the runway is ready for full operations by the deadline of March 31, 2025. Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be onboard the aircraft to observe the test landing.
The test will be conducted by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in coordination with Air Traffic Controllers (ATC), NMIA, and CIDCO. This landing will be the first commercial aircraft to land on the southern runway of NMIA.
The first commercial landing is part of ongoing preparations for the airport’s official opening, which is scheduled for 2025. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has been invited to witness the event, although his attendance is yet to be confirmed.
This landing follows a successful Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system validation conducted on December 12, 2024. The PAPI system, crucial for guiding pilots during landing, has been tested under both day and night conditions for pilot safety.
The Airbus A320 will be registered with the tail number VT-IFN and flight number 6E9165. The aircraft will perform at least three go-arounds (landing abort procedures) before attempting to land on the runway.
The aircraft, an Airbus A320, is 11.7 years old and was manufactured in Hamburg in 2013. It was delivered to IndiGo in May 2013. This is a significant step toward ensuring the readiness of NMIA for commercial flight operations.

The previous test flights at the airport included a successful landing by an Indian Air Force (IAF) C295 aircraft on October 11, 2024. The successful completion of this test will be a key milestone towards NMIA’s full operational readiness.

The test was conducted by AAI in coordination with Air Traffic Controllers (ATC), NMAI, CIDCO

The aircraft received a traditional water salute from two Crash Fire Tenders (CFT)

Senior representatives from DGCA, AAI, Customs, Immigration, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), CIDCO, IMD, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) were present among the many gathered to witness this milestone
