Pothole repair involves navigating challenges like adverse weather conditions, heavy traffic, and the need for specific materials such as Mastic Asphalt, which requires high temperatures for bonding. Temporary measures like the cold mix, WMM (Wet Mix Macadam), DBM (Dense Bituminous Macadam), and Paver blocks are employed during heavy rainfall. Advanced techniques like mastic asphalt provide sustainable, long-term solutions.

With Mumbai experiencing a record-breaking average rainfall of 2318.80 mm this Monsoon season, challenges have been substantial. July alone saw 1769.8 mm of rainfall (till July 31, 2023), surpassing the previous July record of 1502.6 mm in 2020. Despite such exceptional weather conditions, MMRDA remains steadfast in efficiently completing projects with minimal disruption.

MMRDA maintains strict quality control even after project completion. Contractors are accountable for repairing road defects during the Defect Liability Period (DLP), ensuring road integrity even after transfer to relevant authorities.

MMRDA's Special Planning Authority extends its maintenance efforts to the Bandra Kurla Complex, Oshiwara District, and the Wadala Truck Terminal area. Here, approximately 28 km of concrete roads are diligently maintained. MMRDA's dedicated team tackles potholes and road issues with unwavering commitment, offering commuters a smooth driving experience.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, reaffirmed his dedication to MMR's infrastructure development while prioritizing citizen convenience. Acknowledging the impact of heavy rainfall on waterlogging and pothole formation, he commended the fully equipped MMRDA team for their swift response and efficient coordination through the control room.
