The incident happened around 3.10 pm in the afternoon and by 3.38 pm, Mumbai Fire Brigade had dubbed it to be ‘level-3’ fire which denotes a major fire.
As many as 14 persons were rescued from the fire of which nine, who were stranded in a gym, were rescued from terrace, two others were rescued using Angus ladder. Three additional persons were rescued through staircase.
Nearly three firefighters of MP45 Goregaon Fire Station suffocated due to the thick smoke. They were taken to the hospital in 108 ambulance and are said to be in a stable condition.
According to MFB officials, the fire was confined to electric wiring, electric installation in 10-12 shops on second and third floor of a basement & ground plus three-storey building.
The MFB said that they have engaged five small hose lines, and one high-pressure first aid line of motor pumps to extinguish the fire.
