Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's son Amit filed his nomination from Mahim for the Maharashtra Assembly election at Dr Antonio Da Silva High School in Dadar, on Monday, October 28. Moments later, his rival candidate, Mahesh Sawant from Shiv Sena (UBT), also submitted his nomination papers  (PICS/ASHISH RAJE)

Before filing his nomination, Amit visited the Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar along with his wife  Mitali and mother Sharmila

Amit is making his electoral debut in the Maharashtra Assembly election

He took a rally to the nomination centre along with a large number of supporters, who showered flower petals on the Thackeray scion

In 2009, its first solo run had given MNS 13 MLAs. In the outgoing House, the MNS has just one legislator. Raj Thackeray wishes to increase the number of elected representatives to be one of the stakeholders in the game of thrones

Before filing his nomination, Amit also paid tributes to freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Mahesh Sawant was also greeted with a large number of supporters before he filed his nomination 

The Mahim Assembly will witness a triangular fight. Apart from Amit and Sawant, Sada Sarvankar, Shiv Sena's candidate, will also contest from Mahim

However, BJP leader Ashish Shelar has urged his Mahayuti ally to withdraw its candidature from the seat 

In Mahim, the MNS had a legislator in 2009 and finished runner-up in the following two elections against undivided Sena’s nominee Sada Sarvankar, who shifted his loyalty to Shiv Sena after the party split in 2022

The  Maharashtra Assembly polls will be held in a single phase and voting will take place on November 20, while the counting will held three days later and the results will be announced on November 23

The term of Maharashtra Assembly's will end on November 26

Shiv Sena (UBT), which is headed by Thackeray's cousin Uddhav, has a stronghold in Mumbai and Thane regions 

Meanwhile, MNS spokesperson and former corporator Sandeep Deshpande also offered his prayers at Siddhivinayak Temple before he filing nomination for the Maharashtra Assembly election. He will be fighting against former state minister Aaditya Thackeray and Shiv Sena candidate Milind Deora  

As several leaders visited Dadar to file their nominations along with their supporters, the police had a busy day manning traffic 

With the Model Code of Conduct in place, the police are also checking vehicles across the state for unaccounted cash and valuables
