Parambir Singh was serving as the Director-General (DG) of the Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) when his appointment was announced. Parambir Singh's appointment came a day after state Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh ruled out granting a third extension to Sanjay Barve. The former Mumbai Police Commissioner was earlier granted three-month extensions on two occasions.
Soon after taking charge as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai, Parambir Singh said, "I feel honoured to occupy this post as various legends have occupied this post before me. I feel humbled to have been selected for this job. I will continue the good works done by my predecessors."
