One dead in accident on Palm Beach Road, case registered against 23-Year-old driver

The NRI police in Navi Mumbai have registered a case of rash driving and negligence against a 23-year-old man following an accident on Palm Beach Road. The accident resulted in the death of his friend who was a passenger in the car. The car lost control, mounted the divider, and collided with a tree, leading to injuries for three occupants, one of whom later succumbed to his injuries.

The police said the complainant is Pandurang Nana Kavate 40, a police constable based with NRI police station. Kavate in his statement to police said the accused Karan Ravindra Gharat (23) was driving his car. Karan was accompanied by his friend where Sushant Thakur (32) and Rahul Pawar (32) were in the car. "Karan who was driving the car was driving rashly on the road. He further lost control and got on the divider moving almost for 60 to 70 meters and further hit a tree on the divider. Sushant Thakur and Karan had suffered injuries, while Rahul Pawar who was sitting in the back seat suffered serious injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," said a police officer.

The police said the incident took place on Thursday morning at around 10:30 am in front of TS Chanakya Academy on Palm Beach Road towards Belapur to Vashi Road. "The investigation revealed that Karan was driving the car and his rash driving had led to head injury to him and also resulted in the death of his friend Rahul Pawar who was in the car. However, a case has been registered against him," said a police officer.

The NRI police have registered a case under sections 279, 337, 338 and 304 (A) of the Indian penal code and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. "We have registered a case and are further investigating the matter. The accused Karan had suffered a head injury and was admitted to the hospital. Once he is discharged we will further take action against him," said the police officer from NRI police station.
