At Charni Road station, the south-end elevated booking office that had been dismantled will be built with a bridge linking it to all the platforms
To improve passenger amenities, the Western Railway will rebuild Grant Road, Charni Road, Mahalaxmi and Dadar stations that see significant footfalls. Work is expected to begin before March 2022, said officials. The station buildings at these locations are old.
At Dadar station, officials said, a number of new inter-linked foot overbridges (FoB), many of them interconnected, have come up and have significantly upgraded the station connectivity. The old BMC FoB at the Churchgate-end is also being rebuilt, creating a bigger circulating area. The old, elevated ticket booking offices at the southern end has already been demolished. "The new station buildings at Dadar will incorporate these offices and other amenities for which the General Arrangement Drawings are under preparation," said a WR official.
On WR, Dadar station sees a much higher footfall
At Mahalaxmi, the elevated booking office, which was dilapidated, is being revamped. As part of this plan, a new station building will also come up. The BMC and the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation are separately rebuilding the old Mahalaxmi Road bridge with a cable-stayed bridge. The General Arrangement Drawings for this station are awaiting approval from the head office.
At Grant Road and Charni Road, the new bridges and links to the skywalk have changed crowd patterns and the new station buildings with the ticket booking offices would come up soon. At Charni Road station, the south-end elevated booking office that had been dismantled during rebuilding bridges will be built with an improved and larger circulation area with a bridge linking it to all the platforms. At Charni Road, the General Arrangement Drawings have been finalised and the structural design is being prepared.
