Mumbai sees surge in hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients in last four days

As Mumbai sees a continuous surge in daily Covid-19 cases, a total of 574 patients were hospitalised on Monday, as compared to 503 on Sunday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data revealed.

Around 389 were hospitalised on Saturday and 497 on Friday.

The BMC daily bulletin showed that over 56 people who were hospitalised, were on oxygen support on Sunday and the number shot to 71 on Monday. Of the 30,565 beds, 3,735 Covid-19 beds were occupied and out of 2,475 ICU beds, 1,284 beds were occupied in the city.

Mumbai on Monday reported 8,082 fresh coronavirus positive cases and two deaths, taking the tally of positive patients to 8,07,602. The death toll is pegged at 16,379, the city civic body said.

A total of 622 people were discharged during the day, which raised the cumulative number of recoveries in Mumbai to 7,51,358, the civic body said in a statement.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Tuesday said that if the daily Covid-19 cases cross the 20,000 mark, then the lockdown will be imposed in the city.

"We will have to impose lockdown in Mumbai if daily Covid-19 cases cross the 20,000-mark," said Pednekar.
