After seeing less than 2,000 cases for two consecutive days, Mumbai saw a slight rise in fresh Covid-19 cases and deaths on Wednesday. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) report, the city recorded 2,116 new cases and 66 deaths, up from Tuesday's 51. The doubling rate now is 176.
It was on March 14 when the city reported 1,963 cases. After this, the daily cases went on rising until the downward trend began in April.
Of the 66 deaths reported on Wednesday, 36 patients had comorbidities, 37 deaths were of those aged above 60 years and 27 deaths were of patients aged between 40 and 60 years. A total of 4,293 patients recovered and were discharged on Wednesday, with the recovery rate being 92 per cent.
There was a slight rise in the number of Covid-19 cases across Maharashtra on Wednesday, with 46,781 new infections being reported in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 52,26,710 cases. Meanwhile, 816 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours in the state, taking the total death toll to 78,007.
On the other hand, the recovery rate of the state increased to 88.01 per cent, with 58,805 recovering in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 46,00,196.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also reported significantly more new cases at 6,818, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad recorded 866 and Vasai-Virar recorded 964 cases - the maximum in the MMR.
Thane had 416 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili reported 541 new cases and Palghar reported 600 new cases.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 63 deaths, out of which Raigad reported 11 deaths, Thane nine, Navi Mumbai 16 and Panvel seven.
