Mumbai: Mulund Cooperative Housing Society vaccinates residents

After Goregaon's Gokhuldham Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Officers Quarters became the first housing society in Mumbai to conduct doorstep vaccination, Mulund's Golden Willow CHS initiated a similar programme on its premises. The inoculation drive, in collaboration with a private hospital, was held on Saturday. A total of 275 members were vaccinated. On its completion, the programme will be extended to residents from neighbouring societies.

To avoid crowding at vaccination centres, many local representatives and housing societies have been trying to get permission from the BMC to start doorstep vaccination in their societies. Like other places, Mulund too, had witnessed huge crowds at its centres.

Golden Willow CHS in Mulund West sought permission from civic authorities and managed to get it. They collaborated with Fortis Hospital, Mulund to get the vaccines and clinical staff for vaccination. Covaxin was administered to residents, with each shot costing Rs 1,200.

"We had been trying to secure permission for a while. With the support of Manoj Kotak, a member of parliament, we managed to finally get it," said Uday Sotta, secretary of Golden Willows CHS. "On Saturday, we vaccinated 275 members of 18+ age group from our society. From tomorrow onwards, members from neighbouring societies can walk in for the jab," he added.

Kotak said, "We expect this [facility] will reduce the crowds at vaccination centres. I believe societies that can afford to, should come forward and get the vaccination done for their members." On Friday, Goregaon's Gokuldham Reserve Bank of India (RBI) vaccinated 400 residents, who were administered with Covaxin by doctors and staff of Fortis Hospital.
