Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3: Aarey-BKC trains to run every 6 minutes during peak hours

Seven eight-car trains will operate daily on the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 with a frequency of six minutes and 40 seconds during the morning and evening rush hours. The rest of the time, their frequency will be 15-20 minutes. One train will be kept on standby and another in maintenance. The commissioner of Metro railway safety has completed the rolling stock tests and ongoing civil work tests are expected to be completed in a day.

The Aqua Line 3, expected to be opened to the public on Sunday, will be operating 48 services in a single direction on the 12.44-km BKC-Aarey JVLR segment. Throughout the day, 96 services will be operated. But an official confirmation of the public opening is awaited.

From Monday to Saturday, trains will run between 6.30 am and 10.30 pm. On Sundays and holidays, they will run between 8.30 am and 10.30 pm. The minimum and maximum fares are R10 and R50, respectively. The rush hour timings of Metro include 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm. There are 10 stations between BKC and Aarey of which all will open, including the two airport stations T1 and T2. The 33.5-km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor is a key project to improve transportation in the city with 26 underground stations and 1 ground level (Aarey JVLR).

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited has placed orders for 31 rakes with Alstom for the 33.5 km corridor. The Aqua Line 3 project is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the total project cost, revised to Rs 37,276 crore as approved by the Union government in February this year, includes a JICA loan of Rs 21,280 crore.
