Angry that his wife brought the birthday cake late, a husband attacked her with a knife and also injured his son who tried to intervene on Sunday night. Both were seriously injured, with the son in critical condition at Rajawadi hospital. The husband is now on the run, and Sakinaka police are searching for him.
The incident occurred in the Ashok Nagar Pipeline area of Sakinaka. On his birthday, Rajendra Shinde became furious when his wife, Ranjana, who works as a housemaid, returned home late with the cake. Shinde, who works in fabrication, started arguing with her and then attacked her with a kitchen knife, injuring her hand and neck.
Their 22-year-old son, Sunil, rushed to intervene but was also attacked by Shinde, who stabbed him in the stomach before fleeing. Neighbours called the police and took Ranjana and Sunil to hospital. Ranjana's injuries were minor, but Sunil's condition is critical and he has undergone surgery.
The police, under the guidance of DCP Mangesh Shinde and Senior Inspector Chimte, are investigating the case, with PSI Sagar Jadhav leading the investigation.
"During the investigation and after recording the statements of the injured, it was found that Shinde often used to fight and quarrel with Ranjana over petty issues," said an officer.
