The chief minister has empowered local governing authorities to decide whether house helps/maids, drivers, and attendants to senior citizens or ill patients can be exempted from the lockdown, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has retained its earlier orders, allowing the same.
According to a circular issued by the BMC, all the restrictions put in place by the Maharashtra government will be followed, however, the exemptions - house maids / cooks, drivers, attendants - have been made as per the earlier orders dated April 7. Besides this, 24-hour food delivery and e-commerce for essential services will be allowed, along with home delivery of alcohol.
While the city will see a curfew and the movement of the citizens will be restricted from Thursday morning onwards (night curfew is already in place), the police cannot stop house maids from going to work. The civic body has earlier stated that their movement shall not be restricted from 8 am to 10 pm. Suresh Kakani, additional municipal commissioner, said, "We have continued our previous exemptions and so house maids can continue working without an issue."
